RESOLUTION No. 20-45
REQUESTING THE COUNTY AUDITOR TO CERTIFY THE ESTIMATED PROPERTY TAX REVENUE FOR A REPLACEMENT FLOOD LEVY AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY

WHEREAS, The City of Ironton desires to replace the existing two (2) mill tax Flood Levy; and
WHEREAS, The City must obtain a Certificate of Estimated Property Tax Revenue for such
replacement levy and submit the same to the Lawrence County Board of Elections; and
WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Ironton, State of Ohio has determined that it is necessary to replace the tax levy for the benefit of the citizens of Ironton for the purpose of providing and operation and maintaining the flood protection works, to meet the needs of the citizens of Ironton, Ohio, pursuant to the Ohio Revised Code Sections 5705.19(O) and 5705.12 for a period of five (5) years commencing with the tax year of 2021 and continuing through the tax year of 2025.
WHEREAS, O.R.C. Section 5705.19 requires a resolution from the taxing authority requesting the County Auditor certify to the taxing authority the total current tax valuation of the political subdivision and revenue that a specified number of mills would generate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: by the Council of the City of Ironton, Ohio, hereby requests from the Lawrence County Auditor a certificate of estimated property tax revenue for the City of Ironton, State of Ohio.
Section 1: The City of Ironton is requesting an estimate of the amount of revenue that would be produced by a replacement levy of two (2) mill, to levy a tax in excess of the ten (10) mill limitation for flood protection.
Section 2: That the Council of the City of Ironton, State of Ohio hereby states to the Auditor that the amount of taxes that may be raised within the 10 mill limitation will be insufficient to provide for the necessary requirements of the political subdivision and that it is necessary to continue to levy a tax in excess of that limitation for the purpose of flood protection
Section 3: It is hereby determined and declared that the questions of said tax levy shall be submittedto the electors of the City of Ironton, Ohio at the general election to be held on November 3, 2020, as authorized by law.
Section 4: This Resolution shall be declared an emergency necessary for the protection of the health, safety and welfare of the residents of the City of Ironton, Ohio.
