The Ironton Fire Department
The mission of the Ironton Fire Department is to serve our community through excellence in fire prevention, education, safety and protection. Our emergency services include rapid response to fires, as well as emergency medical incidents, motor vehicle collisions and the monitoring and appropriate action with regard to chemical spills and the release of hazardous materials.
We also handle specialized rescue services in confined spaces, collapsed structures, and other emergency situations.
Fire Prevention
By far the smartest action you can take with regard to fire safety is prevention. This means installing smoke alarms on each level of your home, as well as inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas. But installing smoke alarms is not enough. Test them each month to ensure that they are fully functioning.
Talk with fellow family members and map out an escape plan should a fire occur. Should a fire occur, get out first and then call 911 for help. Do not go back inside for anything or anyone.
Fire Inspections
Performing diligent fire inspections helps safeguard you and those you care about. This means ensuring that people can get out through appropriately marked exits and escape routes. Fire inspections follow a standardized checklist which includes assessing electrical systems, checking emergency lighting, inspecting fire extinguishers, testing the alarm systems and inspecting the sprinkler system.
If special suppression systems are used, these will also be checked, and the overall maintenance of the area will be assessed. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms will be tested, and users will be reminded of the proper use of any devices that produce heat and could pose a risk of fire. An inspection report will be generated and filed accordingly with the Fire Department.
