ORDINANCE TO ESTABLISH THE SALARY OF COUNCIL MEMBERS

WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Ironton City Council to increase the rate of pay for all City Council Members and Chairman of Council; and,
WHEREAS, Ironton City Charter Section 2.04 states “The Council shall, by ordinance, fix the salary of its members, which shall be paid in equal monthly installments.”; and,
WHEREAS, Ironton City Charter does not allow the salary of a member of Council to be increased or decreased during the term of office; and,
WHEREAS, the Ironton City Council believes it to be in the best interest of the City of Ironton to increase the salary of Council Members and the Chairman of Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
IRONTON, OHIO:
SECTION I:
That all Council Members shall be paid a monthly amount to reflect the minimum earnable salary required to receive a full year service credit with the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System.
SECTION II:
That the Chairman of Council receive the minimum earnable salary to receive a one-year full service credit with the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System, plus an additional $100.00 per month.
SECTION III:
This amount is scheduled to increase each and every year through 2029.
SECTION IV:
The salary shall increase each and every year pursuant to the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System guidelines for receiving an earnable salary per month to receive a full year service credit.
SECTION V:
This ordinance shall take effect pursuant to Ohio law and pursuant to the City Charter of the City of Ironton, Ohio.
