Public Services Department
Building, Zoning, and Code Enforcement
The purpose of the Public Services Department is to ensure the safe and lawful use of properties and buildings according to city ordinances. This includes following the standards of the International Building Code. Through our work, we aim to spur development throughout Ironton in a way that’s professional, efficient, and completed with integrity.

Zoning
Zoning is the process through which land use across Ironton is regulated. The official zoning map of the city of Ironton includes regulations for the city as a whole, as well as individual zoning districts. These regulations can include (but are not limited to):
- Permitted land usage
- Landscaping requirements
- Building height and density
- Parking regulation
If you have a land use requirement that does not fit the ordinary use of a given zone, the Zoning Commission will review your special use requirement. Land uses that are not specifically listed as being permitted are prohibited without a zoning chapter amendment. Should you have questions or concerns about zoning laws and what is permitted, we encourage you to contact us to share your feedback or questions.
Permits and Applications
Please ensure that you provide any additional information or documents requested at the time of submission of your application. Additional information and documents will be noted on the application. Any application requiring clarification or additional information for processing will be requested by Public Service Coordinator via email or telephone.
These forms are available to download, complete, and return via email, in person, or by mail.
